Aldie — Gateway to the Loudoun Valley
Aldie marks the threshold of Virginia's Hunt Country. Set in a gap between the Catoctin and Bull Run Mountains, where the Little River runs alongside the John Mosby Highway, the village grew up around the Aldie Mill — a handsome brick gristmill completed in 1809 and the only mill in Virginia driven by twin waterwheels. It was founded by Charles Fenton Mercer, who named it for his family's ancestral castle in Scotland, and it carries a rich Civil War history as ground once walked by Mosby's Rangers.
Today the historic core of Aldie remains a tight, walkable village of early-19th-century homes, while the surrounding countryside offers farms and rural acreage within easy reach of both Middleburg and Leesburg. For buyers who want a foothold in Loudoun's protected west, with the village's history at the doorstep, Aldie is a rare and convenient point of entry.
